Have you ever heard of Ada Lovelace? She is the first recognized programmer in the world. This woman was an English mathematician and writer who worked on the analytical engine in the mid-1800´s and her notes contained the first algorithm that could be processed by a machine. Let this article celebrate not only her, but all tech ladies that work in IT. International Girls in ICT Day that takes place on 27th of April 2023 is the best time to honour them.

In celebration of International Girls in ICT Day, we sat down with some of the talented women that represent the diverse roles and perspectives that make IT such an exciting field. In this article, we'll introduce you to our Software developers: Ana, Kria, Kristína, our Automation tester specialist Timea and Application maintenance specialist Danka. Read on, and hear their thoughts on their careers, goals, and the importance of women's voices in tech.

1. Why did you choose an IT career?

Ana: From a young age, I was good at maths and science studies and I was leaning towards STEM industries. Learning programming interested me and pushed me in that direction, so I chose Computer science engineering.

Kria: Because I have always enjoyed solving logical problems and prefer to work in a peaceful environment, either in silence or with music on my laptop. I wouldn't choose anything else for now; an IT career is my dream job.

Timea: It was just a coincidence. I was looking for a job, I got invited to an interview and they let me test the application there. I really liked it.

Danka: Ever since my school days, I have been very interested in the subject of Informatics. And I certainly do not regret my decision, I am satisfied with my career in IT.

Kristína: I wanted to learn new things, and fortunately, I had a loved one (my now husband) who could guide me professionally. So, I began programming. I certainly wouldn't change anything and I'm glad for this decision.

2. What are some of the key lessons you have learned throughout your career in IT, and how have these lessons helped you to grow and develop as a professional?

Kristína: The key is to remain calm and work with a clear head without stress. Do not rush, because the more you rush, the more mistakes you make.

Timea: The most important lesson I've learnt is to never rest on your laurels. We must continue to grow, otherwise we risk being left behind.

Kria: Don't be afraid to ask for help when you get stuck. You can spend days trying to solve a problem on your own, while someone else could give you a hint in a matter of seconds. Also, don't be quiet if something about the project bothers you or you want to improve something.

5. What advice would you give to young men and women who are interested in pursuing a career in IT?

Ana: IT industry is vast and offers a lot, and anyone with interest in IT can find something they are good at and it really interests them. So, don’t be afraid to explore different fields and technologies until you find something that suits you.

Kristína: Don´t be afraid. There are a lot of successful IT specialists that started their career in a different field, or they studied something else. It's still a good time to start, there are plenty of options.

Timea: If you enjoy IT, go for it.

Danka: Try it out. It is an interesting job. There is always something new to discover.

Kria: The best advice is the advice they must have heard a million times, but it's really the best advice, especially in IT career: never give up!
